Energizer Silver Oxide Batteries 357 - 9 ct.

Of all SR series button cells the most energy storage5

The 357 cell made in silver oxide chemistry (like this one) has the highest capacity of about 200 mAh and as such it has numerous equivalents including:

AG13

SG13

LR44

LR154

A76

S76

157

303

LR1154

SR1154

1166A

1107SO

1131SOP

SR44 (size name)

Since the silver oxide cell contains more power than the alkaline or MnO2 cells it is a universal replacement for all of the above cells so having silver oxide 357 cells on hand will replace ALL of the cells listed above with equal or likely better performance. Also the silver oxide chemistry has a very low self discharge so its not likely that these high quality cells will go dead not being used.

If you wonder why an inferior battery would be made with ~1/2 the power of the silver oxide it is because products can be shipped with these inferior cells dirt cheap operate for a short while then require new batteries. The mfgr usually sells the 357 at a high markup down the road and profits on the batteries where they couldn't on the product. Here they are close to a dollar in watch shops or stores they may be sold for 8-10 dollars PER BATTERY which if you use the 357 or equivalent sizes in any small device makes it advantageous to keep a card of 9 cells on hand.

These cells are also stacked often - our lab handheld pH meter uses a stack of 4 for ~6V but lasts forever. For $5 we can change all 4 batteries but running to the store we would pay $32!

Finally the 357 is not commonly found in watches due to its large size and modern watches low power usage. There are usually 2 batteries for watches that are identical - but one will be able to supply higher power for watches with lamps or other devices while the other is intended for watches that just have a ticking second hand display without any electrical lighting. Here again the higher power battery turns out to be the better deal since it will run any watch longer without replacement.More detail ...
